Shiki Futon Mattress - Cotton

My partner and I have slept on our new futons for about 2 weeks now, and we absolutely love them! They are fluffy and so beautifully made. We also got amazing customer service from Takaokaya, as they helped us get our futons fast and in time for our move in in our new house in Tokyo. Will definitely be ordering again!

I have been sleeping on this for about 6 months now, and I love it! I feel stronger, more flexible and having less back pain after getting rid of my "regular" bed. I use it with tatami mats, and it never gets too hot or to cold (in Norway we have weather in between both ends of the scale).The calming routine of making the fotun (by just folding it out) is a melatonin boost at bedtime. Have tried it all when it comes to sleep advice (as i have always struggled with sleep), but nothing has made me be happier about bedtime than this. The craft of the futon is flawless and durable, and it still looks and feels new. The cotton stays in place and the futon plumps up to its original thickness when i air it in the sun. I am very inspired by the craft and art of these, and was super exited about the handwritten signatures on the tag from the makers of my spesific futon, and the handwritten postcard! I really appreaciated those gestures, thank you!

The only reason I‘m not buying the whole shop

I had ordered authentic Japanese made tatami mats to be paired with this Shiki Futon and found that the pairing was very complimentary. On the first night, I did notice that the heat from my sleep did dissipate through the Shiki Futon and Tatami much more than I expected. I don't wake up in any sort of cold sweat or uncomfortable feelings of humidity which is amazing for me since I like to dress pretty warm during the night. The Shiki Futon is very soft with a strong covering which makes me feel like it was worth the money. My morning routines now consist of rolling up and airing out the Shiki Futon every day along with my Tatami Mats and I have found that I enjoy the extra space in my room. Sleeping on these has been a shift from a normal bed, but after a week of sleeping on my back when I normally don't, I found that I don't really get soreness anymore and I do feel good for the rest of the morning. Should anything happen to my Shiki Futon, I will come back to Takaokaya for another. I hope this place continues to thrive and more people are willing to give this lifestyle a try. I enjoy the discipline it has giving me for my sleep and it does force you to think twice before lazing in bed all day. Here's to many more years!

It was a long road to get this futon, all the way to Florida USA but it was the best decision I ever made. The quality is top notch, the stitching is perfect and the colors are beautiful, it is soft but easy to move and pick up. the sheet I bought is beautiful and I feel so dreamy when I look at it and the material is thick quality. The customer service is the best I ever had, many emails, they are very patient with many questions. the shipping price is worth every penny. you won't get a better futon anywhere. thank you so much, I will be buying again.

Excellent high quality product! I don’t remember the last time I’ve slept this well and I was hoping it would improve my sleep. It definitely has! I’m 29 and my mum is 65 who also bought one and is sleeping comfortably too. We both LOVE it!! Very grounding, very comfortable, easier to maintain than previous western mattress, I won’t be going back!

I have been debating between a single mattress and a futon. Did some research and read the reviews of products here in the US and I was not impressed. I came across this website and did my due diligence. It’s a brave new world out there so I ordered. I’ve been to Japan before and their craftsmanship is real and they deliver. I waited maybe 2-3 weeks but let me tell you it’s worth it. I ordered the twin size futon and a cover and it’s the best sleep of my life. I feel I’m sleeping on a cloud. My back felt supported and the best part is waking up feeling like a spring chicken. The cotton fabric is what sold me to order from this company and sure did I have no regrets.

We acquired two Shiki futon mattresses - one for our daughter and one for us.
We are very satisfied with them. The quality of our sleep definitely improved and we wouldn't want to go back to other mattresses.
We feel more energized in the morning!

i am very pleased with the purchase, this is my first purchase of Takaokaya and i am totally amazed by the quality and comfort

My question is - i am living in a small apartment without a balcony. I will get some sun but sometimes, esp in this season, we have more humid weathers. How can i make sure i air dry and dun dry my futon so make sure it is well taken care of/? Any advice? Thank you.

First time buying from Takaokaya but this is my third shikfuton. They lasted me many years. I hope this one will too.
This futon's handcraftsmanship is superb. The mattress just provides the right amount of cushiness and support for me. It's also a lot lighter in weight compared to my old one. At least a third lighter.
I also purchased a cover and was glad to find it wasn't a full slipcover. I always had a hard time putting those on. (but I do wish the cover were more like a fitted sheet with all four sides tucked in.)

I have ordered two indigo blue futons and eight cushions in different sizes - and I am more than happy with everything: The client service was quick and very nice and professional, the order arrived in time and safe and beautifully wrapped! I will order again some futons and also my daughter will order them for her home: Highly recommended!

Recieved my futon a few weeks ago and I love it! Took a few nights to get used to sleeping on a floor mattress, but now I sleep very well and fall asleep faster than on a regular bed. I'm also following the guidelines on how to take care of a futon by folding it away every day and airing it out once a week. I also got a lovely handwritten card from Valery with my futon!
