Wrapped in the Gentle Embrace of the Kake Futon
Experience the comforting weight of a traditional Japanese Kake Futon Comforter, designed to softly contour to your body and bring a deep sense of security. More than just bedding, the airy, tender touch of the cotton batting works to soothe both body and soul, inviting you to unwind and drift into a peaceful rest. This Kake Futon is primarily designed for use during the winter season.

At Takaokaya, we remain dedicated to the traditional craft of 100% hand-stuffed cotton. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans to ensure the perfect balance of insulation and airflow. Prized for its natural ability to retain heat while breathing away moisture, our cotton fill gathers warmth and holds it close—keeping you cozy on the coldest nights without ever feeling restrictive.

Light enough to move with you as you turn, yet substantial enough to settle naturally over the body, the Kake Futon creates a sense of ease and quiet comfort. Let it become an essential part of your nightly ritual—a gentle companion you will never want to let go of. End every day wrapped in pure, heartfelt warmth.

Included: Simple, 100% White Cotton Cover
This clean, minimalist Kake Futon cover features a central mesh panel, letting the subtle colors and patterns of your comforter shine through.

The Aizome-fu Collection
This piece features our Aizome-fu fabric series, inspired by the deep, captivating hues of traditional indigo dye (aizome, 藍染め). Our Aizome-fu series reinterprets this timeless aesthetic, capturing the soulful depth and texture of traditional dye through modern textile artistry.

By utilizing advanced techniques rather than actual indigo, we are able to offer the classic, evocative look of indigo with the ease of contemporary fabrics—a perfect marriage of tradition and modern living.

All Made by Hand

Sparing no time or effort, every single piece is crafted with care.

All of our kangu (relaxation tools) are individually handcrafted by seasoned artisans. This cotton duvet is no exception. With deep care for the person who will use it, our craftsmen pour their hearts into manually placing and layering every handful of cotton fill.

In an age driven by automation and efficiency, we intentionally slow down—dedicating time and meticulous effort to authentic craftsmanship.

Our wish is simple: to bring you true, heartfelt comfort. May that devotion reach you through every rest you take.

To prevent the cotton filling from shifting inside the futon, the three layers—outer fabric (front and back) and cotton filling—are carefully secured with thread. This traditional hand-stitching technique is called “Watoji (和綴じ).” Unlike standard machine quilting, which compresses the cotton, Watoji gently holds the layers in place, preserving the natural loft and softness of the cotton for a truly comfortable sleeping experience.

Please note that over time, some stitching may come loose or break. This does not affect the futon’s functionality, so you can enjoy it with confidence.

For the frame and lining, we use a traditional unbleached cotton fabric known as kibata. After weaving, the fabric undergoes only a simple warm-water wash—free from any bleaching or chemical dyeing. This preserves the simple, raw beauty of the natural fibers and gives it a delightfully soft feel against the skin.

You may notice tiny dark specks scattered across the surface; these are completely natural remnants of the cotton plant's leaves and husks. They are entirely harmless, so please rest assured and enjoy the pure, unrefined comfort of natural cotton.

Due to the width of the fabric, kake futons require a seam. As a result, patterned fabrics may have slight misalignments where the pieces meet. We appreciate your understanding.

Custom sizes are also available upon request—please feel free to contact us for details.

Effortless Care, Seamless Comfort

Designed to pair perfectly with our Kake Futon, this cover brings comfort and practicality to everyday living. Thoughtfully crafted with a side zipper, your futon slips in and out smoothly for effortless setup and removal.

Tiny loops attached to each corner of our Kake Futon allow you to secure the inner ties of the cover, keeping everything perfectly in place.

Made for daily life, the cover is fully machine washable, so keeping your bedding fresh and clean is completely hassle-free.

Choose Your Pattern & Personalize

Customize your futon to perfectly suit your home with our signature Aizome-fu fabric series. Inspired by the deep, captivating hues of traditional indigo dye (aizome), this collection embodies a quiet beauty revered in Japan for centuries.
