Zen Meditation Set (Ojami and Zabuton) - Aizome-fu
A Harmonious Cushion Set for Zazen
In zazen and meditation practice, it is common to use two cushions together. One is a smaller cushion that gently lifts the hips, helping the body settle into an upright and balanced posture with ease. The other is placed beneath it, softly cushioning the points of contact with the floor and easing pressure on the legs when sitting cross-legged—allowing you to remain comfortable, even during longer periods of stillness.
We have brought these two elements together as a harmonious set: our Ojami Cushion, our signature kangu, paired with the Kyoto Zabuton Cushion, a traditional Japanese floor cushion. Together, they offer a sense of grounded stability and gentle comfort throughout your practice.
For the Ojami Cushion, you may combine a solid color with our popular Aizome-fu fabric, inspired by the timeless beauty of indigo dye (aizome, 藍染め) and recreated through traditional Japanese patterns. The Zabuton Cushion is available in a selection of simple, elegant solid colors.
This set is also used in well-known temples in Kyoto for Zen meditation practice, quietly supporting moments of mindfulness and reflection.
We invite you to bring this set into your home and create a peaceful space for your practice—comfortably, wherever you are.

This product contains cotton filling. To ensure its longevity, please follow these care instructions:
Washing
- Do not wash at home. This item is not suitable for home laundering.
- Spot Cleaning: For minor stains, gently dab the area with a damp cloth as soon as possible. Avoid rubbing harshly, as this may cause the color to bleed or fade.
- Professional Cleaning: If deep cleaning is necessary, please consult a professional cleaner specializing in futons or heavy bedding.
Drying
- Sun drying is possible. However, please be aware that dark-colored items may fade if exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods.
Storage
- Store in a well-ventilated area. * Before long-term storage, we recommend drying the item in the sun to remove any lingering moisture.
- Moisture Prevention: Cotton filling is sensitive to humidity. To prevent moisture buildup and mold, do not store in airtight plastic bags. Instead, use a breathable material such as a non-woven fabric bag.
Important Notes on Product
- Handcrafted Quality: Each of our products is handcrafted by skilled artisans—from cutting and sewing to filling and finishing. As a result, there may be slight variations in size, shape, weight, and firmness between individual pieces. We appreciate your understanding of these unique, handmade qualities.
- Natural Wear and Cushioning: Since this product is filled with cotton, the degree of compression over time will vary depending on the frequency of use, the user’s body type, and how the item is handled. Please understand that settling (loss of loft) is a natural characteristic of cotton filling and should be expected over time.
- Static and Fiber Migration: Due to the nature of cotton filling, friction against clothing or other fabrics may cause static electricity. This can occasionally cause fine cotton fibers to work their way through the outer fabric. We appreciate your understanding of this material trait.

The Art of Balanced Seating
Proper meditation posture requires two things: hip elevation for spinal alignment and ground cushioning for joint relief. The Zen Meditation Set pairs our signature Ojami Cushion with the traditional Kyoto Zabuton to give you the ideal balance of firmness, lift, and floor protection for longer sessions.
- Ojami Cushion: Customizable with a solid color and our indigo-inspired Aizome-fu patterned fabric.
- Kyoto Zabuton: Available in a range of simple, elegant solid shades.
Finding Your Ideal Size Combination
Customizing your set ensures your body gets the exact support it needs. First, choose a Kyoto Zabuton to cushion your knees and ankles—Large for standard frame sizes and compact spaces, or Extra Large for taller practitioners or kneeling posture. Then, pick your Ojami Cushion to lift your hips and align your spine: Small for a subtle lift, Medium for everyday cross-legged sitting, or Large for tighter hips and broader builds.

I recently purchased this meditation set. I got the zabuton in XL and the ojami in M. They are just what I was hoping for. The quality and workmanship are top-notch. I’m already familiar with Takaokaya as I own their shikifuton and mattress topper. Now I can go from the best night’s sleep to a restorative meditation practice! And it took only 1.5 weeks from when I placed the order until I received it in the USA. Thank you!
Thank you Melody for sharing your Zen space set up!
We are so glad to be able to handcraft you traditional Japanese bedding and cushions that you can enjoy at home!
Please enjoy!
Happy Kutsurogi,
