This slow, gentle method minimizes stress on the cotton fibers, preserving their natural volume and creating an impossibly soft, "soufflé-like" texture that is exceptionally kind to the skin.
To complete the experience, our skilled craftsmen hand-stuff each comforter, designing it to wrap you in a sense of total relaxation and tactile bliss.

- Moisture Prevention: Cotton filling is sensitive to humidity. To prevent moisture buildup and mold, do not store in airtight plastic bags. Instead, use a breathable material such as a non-woven fabric bag.

- Static and Fiber Migration: Due to the nature of cotton filling, friction against clothing or other fabrics may cause static electricity. This can occasionally cause fine cotton fibers to work their way through the outer fabric. We appreciate your understanding of this material trait.

Washing: Hand wash only (water temperature up to 30°C).
Bleaching: Do not bleach.
Drying: Do not tumble dry.
Drying: Line dry in the shade.
Ironing: Iron at high temperature (up to 210°C).
Dry Cleaning: Dry clean on a gentle cycle using perchlorethylene, dibutoxymethane, petroleum solvents, or decamethylpentasiloxane.

- Use a laundry net when washing.
- Use a press cloth when ironing.
- Do not iron the mesh parts.

- Store in a dry, low-humidity place. When storing for an extended period, air it in the sun first, remove the cover or sheet, and store it in a dry location. To prevent dust mites and mold, air the futon periodically even when not in use and keep the storage area dry.

The traditional Wazarashi process takes place inside a specialized, large-scale vat, where master craftspeople perform a meticulous four-day cleaning and washing process while closely monitoring the condition of the fibers every step of the way.
Throughout the process, filtered natural water is repeatedly refreshed to boil, age, and cleanse the fabric. By keeping the cloth completely still inside the vat and keeping water temperatures under 90°C (194°F), this method protects the raw fibers from unnecessary stress and physical pressure.
The result is Wazarashi Double Gauze—an exceptionally soft, chemical-free, and safe fabric brought to life by the uncompromising dedication of skilled artisans.
Crafted by a heritage textile mill that has preserved this traditional technique for over 90 years, every piece reflects the extraordinary time and care required to create such a rare, gentle material.

Sizes
Our kake futons are available in three standard Japanese sizes: Single, Semi-Double, and Double.
Traditionally, futon sizes are measured by the dimensions of the outer fabric casing before the cotton filling is added. Accordingly, the sizes listed on our online store refer to the casing dimensions prior to filling, and the completed futon will be slightly smaller once stuffed.

Tip: If you are planning to purchase a Shiki Futon as well, we generally recommend choosing the same size for both your Shiki Futon and Kake Futon (e.g., Shiki Futon: Single [100x210 cm], Kake Futon: Single [150x210 cm]).
While there is no strict rule, a properly sized Kake Futon fully covers the Shiki Futon during winter, blocking cold air from seeping in and keeping you warm.

Mawata (Silk Filling)
Mawata offers roughly 1.5 times the moisture absorption of 100% cotton, alongside exceptional breathability. Our silk filling is meticulously hand-pulled and layered, allowing it to quickly absorb and release overnight perspiration. The result is a delightfully fresh, airy sleep experience that never feels hot or stuffy.
Renowned for its ultra-fine fibers, Mawata provides incredible flexibility and superior drapability. It contours smoothly around your shoulders to seal out cold drafts and keep you comfortably cozy.
