We place great emphasis on and take extreme care during the stuffing process because it determines the comfort level as well as the longevity of the finished products. Our craftsmen work meticulously to ensure that the futon can retain and maintain its shape and fluffiness with daily use. To make the futons, we use many layers of cotton filling, piling layer after layer to the center of the futon repeatedly. The watoji stitch is then used to secure the cotton filling in place which also acts as decorations. Though the process is tedious, our craftsmen at Takaokaya, desire to create the most comfortable futons, so that our users can enjoy true relaxation for a good night’s rest. As cotton fibers are hollow and have a natural twist structure, our futons have excellent moisture absorption in the summer heat and cozy in the winter chill, making them suitable for all seasons. Our futons also have good resilience due to our choice selection of cotton. Sunning your futon regularly not only helps to fluff up your futon but also disinfect it. The cotton filling we used for stuffing Shiki Futon is specially selected so that our futons are plushy and yet firm to provide ample support for a healthy spine.

Great purchase

I was gladly surprised that the Shiki Futon is so soft - I had thought it would not be so fluffly on the inside.
Upon opening it, there was an incredible excitement and one very nice detail to me was that it had a lovely smell, sort of like hay or that it had been in a nice comfy barn for a while.
Anyway. We received our futon about a week ago and I can start to say that my back is finally slowly getting used to it. I have been eager to transition form our way too old couch to something natural and luckily I found this shop. You have the kindest customer service people. I found it beautiful that the futon had a tag on it with signatures from all workers who had crafted the mattress. How good to get a sense of that.

The futon experience I was hoping for!

Excellent high quality product! I don’t remember the last time I’ve slept this well and I was hoping it would improve my sleep. It definitely has! I’m 29 and my mum is 65 who also bought one and is sleeping comfortably too. We both LOVE it!! Very grounding, very comfortable, easier to maintain than previous western mattress, I won’t be going back!

Also very efficient and kind customer service with fast shipping to Australia!

Finally rested at wake-up

Owing to my job I relocate every 3-5 years, and I systematically struggled to find a good mattress. Due to the frequency of relocations, I directly witnessed the changes in traditional mattresses technology: be the materials, or this absurd fashion of "7 ergonomic zones", or the differences in stiffness preferences across different countries . The more time passes, the more they get complicated. Also, some chemicals used in the foams caused me allergic reactions, at times.
So I decided, in last stance, to try with a hard reboot and purchase a traditional Japanese futon. I am sincerely happy with this investment. By now it has been a few weeks sleeping on it -directly on the wooden floor- and I finally wake up rested, not feeling sleepy after 1h or so. Ergonomics is also very good, as compared to traditional western mattresses. For sure I will need more time to see the long term effects, but for now I have the sensation to have solved an issue I had for way too long. I'd totally recommend the product and I'm sincerely grateful to Takaokaya-San for their support along the way.
