Takaokaya’s Original Zafu — Gentle Support for Mindful Living
A zafu (坐蒲) is a traditional Japanese meditation cushion used for zazen. It gently elevates the hips, allowing the spine to align naturally while creating a stable and comfortable seated position.
The Cojami Meditation Zafu Pillow is part of our Kangu collection—originally created for relaxation, yet quietly suited for meditation and mindful living. It offers gentle support that helps you settle into a calm, balanced posture, whether for quiet reflection, breathing practice, or everyday moments of stillness.
With a slightly higher profile than other Kangu, Cojami invites a more effortless sitting posture, making it especially comfortable for meditation and extended sitting. Its form supports the body while maintaining a quiet stability, creating a sense of ease and grounded comfort.

Inspired by the deep, quiet beauty of traditional Japanese indigo dye (aizome, 藍染め), the fabric reflects a timeless elegance through rich blue tones and refined patterns—capturing the essence of indigo without using the dye itself.
Thoughtfully crafted with attention to both form and feeling, Cojami brings together tradition and modern simplicity—creating a serene presence in your space, and a gentle companion for moments of stillness.
All of our products are made-to-order. Each piece is handcrafted specifically for you once your order is confirmed. Please allow approximately 14-20 business days for production before your item is shipped.

You may already know the zafu—a firm meditation cushion created to support the spine and encourage a stable, upright posture during meditation. Cojami is Takaokaya’s contemporary interpretation: a clean, cube-shaped cushion inspired by the Ojami, the traditional Japanese beanbag toy.
With customizable sizes, fillings and an array of color options, you can design a zafu that perfectly fits your practice and gently guides you toward mindfulness.
We offer three types of fillings to suit different preferences
Among our customers, the hard pipe and buckwheat filling are the most popular choices for their firm and stable support during meditation.
For the cojami fabric, we feature our Aizome-fu series.
Inspired by the deep, captivating hues of traditional indigo dye (aizome), this collection embodies a quiet beauty revered for centuries. The Aizome-fu series reinterprets this enduring aesthetic—capturing its essence entirely without the use of actual indigo.
A heritage of elegance, softly woven into modern living.
