Second Life: Series 11 !
The wait is over! Series 11 has officially dropped!
A Fusion of Aizome-Style Patterns and Rich Solids This Ojami Settee pairs "Aizome-fu" textiles—meticulously designed to mirror the deep, sophisticated blues of traditional Japanese indigo dye (aizome, 藍染め) —with our signature solid-toned fabrics. While these patterns capture the timeless aesthetic of authentic indigo dyeing, they are crafted for modern versatility without the use of actual indigo dye.
Complementing these patterns is our Murazome fabric. These plain-colored textiles are born from a unique "discharge-dyeing" method, where the dyer extracts the original pigment while layering in a new hue. This artistry results in the delicate streaks and organic irregularities that give our cotton its soulful, hand-crafted character.

This settee pairs the Aizome-fu series with Plain Color.
The Aizome-fu series draws inspiration from the deep, captivating hues of traditional Japanese indigo dye (aizome), embodying a quiet, timeless beauty revered for centuries. This collection reinterprets that enduring aesthetic—capturing its essence without the use of actual indigo dye.
Our Plain Color features a unique Murazome (uneven-dye) technique. By simultaneously stripping the fabric’s original color while introducing a new shade, craftsmen create subtle, organic streak patterns and rich textural depth.
Have fun combining your favorite patterns and colors to create a custom look!
why is the settee so relaxing?
Unlike ordinary cushions, the Ojami is designed to be three-dimensional and is hand-stuffed with cotton by our craftsmen to ensure greater volume and fluffiness all over. The Ojami Cushion, being thicker, helps to elevate the bottom so you can sit more comfortably and relax.
To prevent the Ojami from going flat easily and to give support for a good sitting posture naturally, we created a three-layer structured inner filling. We selected a special urethane which is used as the core, which is then wrapped with a cotton pad, to create exquisite firmness and thickness.
Middle stitches are applied to the center of the cushions to keep the cotton filling in place. The contours achieved by this stitch, naturally take the form of your body when you sit or lie down on the Ojami, to provide absolute comfort and rest.
Each Kangu from Takaokaya is handcrafted by our team of Shokunin (職人), skilled craftsmen and women who carry knowledge and techniques passed down through generations. In our Kyoto studio, we devote ourselves wholeheartedly to creating Kutsurogi — true relaxation.
From the precise cutting of fabrics, to careful sewing, thoughtful stuffing, and the finishing touches, every step reflects the Shokunin’s dedication to detail. With care and sincerity, we approach our craft one piece at a time, ensuring each creation delivers comfort that touches the heart.
