Washing
- Do not wash at home. This item is not suitable for home laundering.
- Spot Cleaning: For minor stains, gently dab the area with a damp cloth as soon as possible. Avoid rubbing harshly, as this may cause the color to bleed or fade.
- Professional Cleaning: If deep cleaning is necessary, please consult a professional cleaner specializing in futons or heavy bedding.
Drying
- Sun drying is possible. However, please be aware that dark-colored items may fade if exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods.
Storage
- Store in a well-ventilated area. Before long-term storage, we recommend drying the item in the sun to remove any lingering moisture.
- Moisture Prevention: Cotton filling is sensitive to humidity. To prevent moisture buildup and mold, do not store in airtight plastic bags. Instead, use a breathable material such as a non-woven fabric bag.

Hand wash only (Max 40°C): You may hand wash this item at a water temperature of 40°C (104°F) or cooler.
*Special Care for Tassels: If your product has decorative tassels (房), please handle them with care as they may break or come loose during washing. Even if a tassel is damaged or lost, the product remains safe to use. - Do not bleach. / Do not iron. / Do not dry clean.
- Very gentle professional wet cleaning is permitted.
- Do not tumble dry.

Hang dry in the shade: After washing, moisture tends to remain trapped inside the pipes. Please remove excess water thoroughly—for example, by wrapping the product in a towel and shaking it gently. Then, we recommend hanging the item to dry in a shaded, well-ventilated area.
*For Heavier Items: If your product is heavy due to a large volume of pipe filling, please ensure it is supported properly when hanging to avoid putting too much stress on the fabric or seams.
- Do not wash. Buckwheat husks must not get wet.
- Sun Drying: We recommend drying the product in direct sunlight for a few hours on a clear day. This helps evaporate moisture and dry the husks, which is effective in preventing dust mites, mold, and odors.
- For Products with Covers: We recommend removing the cover and focusing on sun-drying the insert (inner cushion) itself.
Please refer to the care label with laundry symbols sewn inside before washing. Detailed explanations for each symbol are provided below:
Washing: Machine wash at or below 30°C using a very gentle cycle.
Bleaching: Do not bleach.
Drying: Do not tumble dry.
Drying: Line dry in the shade.
Ironing: Iron at a maximum temperature of 160°C (medium heat).
Dry Cleaning: Professional dry cleaning is permitted using petroleum solvents.
Wet Cleaning: Very gentle professional wet cleaning is permitted.

Shaped for Sitting
In meditation, a slightly forward-leaning posture is often recommended for stability and ease.
The Utane Cushion’s U-shaped design naturally supports the legs in a cross-legged (agura) position. Its gently raised back encourages a subtle forward tilt, helping guide the body into a balanced and comfortable posture—making it especially suitable for beginners.
The Senbei Zabuton, with its generous 100 cm diameter and round shape, provides ample space to place the Utane Cushion and sit comfortably in various positions, including cross-legged (agura) and seiza (kneeling).

A popular inner filling for the Utane Cushion is buckwheat husk, a natural material traditionally used in Japanese pillows. It offers an ideal balance of firmness and support, creating a stable, comfortable seat for meditation. Buckwheat husk is also eco-friendly—renewable, biodegradable, and a byproduct of the food industry that helps reduce agricultural waste. The inner pillow features a convenient zipped opening with a foldable fabric funnel, making it easy to adjust the filling to your preferred height and firmness. This funnel also allows you to remove the filling completely—whether to ensure thorough drying after washing or to replace it with a filling of your choice.
The Senbei Zabuton Cushion is filled with mixed cotton, gently cushioning your contact with the floor to protect your ankles and legs while defining a calm, dedicated space for stillness.
Used together, they provide a deeply relaxed and comfortable sitting experience.
Personalize Your Set
Both the Utane and Senbei include an inner cushion and a removable cover. The inner cushion is made from off-white fabric, while the outer cover can be customized in your choice of color and design.
Three cover styles are available: One Color, Two-Tone (half and half), and Reversible (top and bottom). For the Two-Tone and Reversible styles, you can select two colors from our cotton fabric collection.
