Noren Curtain - Hikizome

    A Touch of Japanese Serenity
A noren is a traditional Japanese split curtain hung across doorways or windows.

Crafted from fine linen and hand-dyed using the traditional brush-dyeing technique known as Hikizome (引き染め), each piece features soft gradations of color and refined depth.

At Takaokaya, relaxation is not only something felt by the body — it is also something to be enjoyed with the eyes. Our Hikizome Noren brings quiet harmony to both space and mind, expressing a unique form of Kangu.

Hang it in a doorway, window, or on a wall to add a subtle Japanese atmosphere to your interior.

    About Hikizome

Hikizome (literally “pull-dyeing,” referring to the motion of drawing a brush across the fabric) is a traditional Japanese dyeing technique in which a bolt of fabric is stretched taut and carefully brushed by hand with layers of water and dye. This method is also known as bokashizome, meaning “gradual shading” or “blur dye.”

Each piece is hand-dyed by skilled artisans, one by one. This careful process embodies the beauty of tradition.

    Inspired by Kyoto’s Landscapes

Our Hikizome linen collection is available in two shades: Kamagawa Blue and Arashiyama Bamboo Green — each inspired by Kyoto’s iconic scenery, from the tranquil flow of the Kamo River to the lush paths of the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove.

    A joyful piece of relaxation

Thank you very much for the recent delivery of a beautifully handcrafted noren.
I feel happy and delighted to have such a gorgeous piece of beauty adorning my house here.
Now in Tasmania, Australia it is December in Summer with some fairly hot days.
This noren gives an added sense of coolness to the area. It is beautiful to watch it wave in the breeze down the hallway and see its lovely colours.
It acts as a useful room divider and gives a subtle glimpse into the next part of the house.
It feels light, bright and magical.
Thank you Takaokaya for creating such a joyful piece of relaxation.
I am looking forward to puchasing the Autumn tones one next.

    Kind regards,
    Stephen

    Beautiful and elegant

This is the second Noren we purchased from Takokaya after being so impressed with the first Noren we purchased (the green/autumn colours). The colours are beautiful and transition very gracefully into each other while still allowing light and providing privacy. The quality is very impressive - you can tell a lot of care has gone into making this product. The communication from Takaokaya has also been fantastic. We were ordering from Australia and they went to impressive lengths to ensure we received our purchases safely and promptly

Thank you Katherine for taking time to review our Noren. At Takaokaya, crafting products with care and pride is our top priority, and it's heartening to know that it shines through. We greatly value our customers, and it is such great encouragement to learn that our communication and efforts to ensure a safe and prompt delivery to Australia have been recognized.

    Sincerely,
    Valery
