Gorone Nap Futon - Linen

The Flop-Down Philosophy: Finding Stillness in Kibira Linen
In Japan, there is a specific word for the art of informal relaxation: Gorone (pronounced go-ro-neh). It literally means to "flop down" and relax.

For generations, the Japanese have mastered this art of unwinding. Whether lining up three zabuton cushions to watch TV or curling up with a favorite book, this "in-between" rest is considered a supreme everyday luxury. It isn’t quite the deep sleep of bedtime, nor is it just a quick sit-down; Gorone is about flipping the "off" switch—decompressing and resetting without committing to the night.

To enhance the Gorone experience, we offer our collection crafted from Kibira, a handwoven linen. This traditional weave is celebrated for its natural sheerness and uniquely crisp texture. Available in a palette of approximately 15 colors, these covers allow you to curate your personal sanctuary—choosing the perfect shade to suit your mood, your space, or the rhythm of the season.

Three Zabutons, One Perfect Resting Space

The Story of Gorone Nap Futon

In Japan, lying down on the floor is one of the most natural ways to unwind. Traditionally, people would instinctively lay out three zabuton cushions side by side, creating an instant, cozy spot for a quick break. This comforting habit inspired the creation of the Gorone Nap Futon. The idea came directly from the okami (proprietress) of a traditional Kyoto ryokan: “After banquets, I often saw guests lining up three zabutons to lie down and rest. I wished we had something more stylish and comfortable designed just for those moments.” Designed to capture the spirit of goron—the simple joy of flopping down to relax—this futon offers the perfect space to stretch out, recharge, and enjoy everyday comfort.

The Artistry of Kibira Linen

Crafted from authentic Kibira Linen, this fabric is woven from 100% natural ramie in a traditional plain weave. Its beautifully raw, open texture showcases the subtle variation of hand-twisted yarns, giving the fabric its signature crispness, structured drape, and airy translucency.

This exceptional textile is born from a meticulous traditional process. Raw plant stalks are first soaked in water for one to two days—a vital step known as retting that cleanses and softens the fibers. Artisans then carefully split the plants into fine strands, hand-splicing and spinning them into a single, continuous thread.

The result is a heritage weave celebrated for its cool, crisp feel and light-filtering quality. Offered in a palette of roughly 15 colors, these covers let you tailor your space to your mood, your decor, or the quiet shift of the seasons.

Sleek Design & Features

Unlike the cotton version, the linen Gorone Nap Futon features a sleek, frame-style design for a refined, modern look. You can personalize the center section by selecting your favorite color from Hikizome.
(*Note: The frame and back side come standard in "Torinoko". If you prefer a different color for these parts, please specify your choice in the notes section at checkout.)

It also features a washable cover, making maintenance quick and simple. Instead of a zipper, the cover wraps smoothly over the futon and ties securely with fabric ribbons. When not in use, simply roll it up and fasten it with the wooden beads attached at both ends for compact, space-saving storage.

Spread it out, fold it over, or roll it up—enjoy the effortless comfort of goron anytime, anywhere, to match your mood and space.
