Handling & Care

This product features a washable cover made by cotton. A care label with laundry symbols is sewn inside the cover. Please refer to this label before washing. For a detailed explanation of each symbol, please see the guide below:

Washing: Machine wash at or below 30°C using a very gentle cycle.

Bleaching: Do not bleach.

Drying: Do not tumble dry.

Drying: Line dry in the shade.

Ironing: Iron at a maximum temperature of 160°C (medium heat).

Dry Cleaning: Professional dry cleaning is permitted using petroleum solvents.

Wet Cleaning: Very gentle professional wet cleaning is permitted.

Important Note on Detergents
For natural (ecru) or light-colored fabrics, we recommend using non-fluorescent detergents. Detergents containing optical brighteners (fluorescent agents) may cause the color to change or look unnaturally pale/bluish.

In Japan, these tassels are more than just decoration—they traditionally serve as a protective charm, warding off negative energy from the seated guest. If you appreciate traditional details and want to complete the classic zabuton look, please take advantage of this option!

Zipper Opening & Zabuton Etiquette

Our covers feature a convenient zipper opening. The edge with the zipper is always considered the back of the zabuton. Conversely, the only seamless, folded edge is the front—which aligns with the knees when sitting down.

Many people may not realize that a zabuton has a designated front and back. Whether for daily use or when offering a cushion to guests, orienting the zabuton correctly is a small gesture of omotenashi (thoughtful hospitality) that prevents anyone from sitting facing the wrong way. Keeping this traditional etiquette in mind is a wonderful way to express true care and respect.
