why is our shiki futon so comfortable?

We place great emphasis on and take extreme care during the stuffing process because it determines the comfort level as well as the longevity of the finished products. Our craftsmen work meticulously to ensure that the futon can retain and maintain its shape and fluffiness with daily use. To make the futons, we use many layers of cotton filling, piling layer after layer to the center of the futon repeatedly. The watoji stitch is then used to secure the cotton filling in the place which also acts as decoration. Though the process is tedious, our craftsmen at Takaokaya, desire to create the most comfortable futons, so that our users can enjoy true relaxation for a good night’s rest. Every night, you will be smiling as you feel your body unwinding and melting away the stresses of the day when you lay down on your Takaokaya futon for the best sleep ever.

Shiki futon can be used on the floor or if you are not used to sleeping on the floor, you can put it on top of your mattress for added comfort and relaxation.

As cotton fibers are hollow and have a natural twist structure, our futons have excellent moisture absorption in the summer heat and cozy in the winter chill, making them suitable for all seasons. Our futons also have good resilience due to our choice selection of cotton. Sunning your futon regularly not only helps to fluff up your futon but also disinfect it. The cotton filling we used for stuffing Shiki Futon is specially selected so that our futons are plushy and yet firm to provide ample support for a healthy spine.

Takaokaya Shiki Futon Mattress Cover is specially designed with pockets on both ends to allow for the Shiki Futon to be slipped in and out without much hassle. The small openings at the side of the pockets allow you to adjust your Shiki Futon Mattress for a perfect fit. To clean, simply put the cover into the washing machine.

Step 1

Spread cover on the futon.

The Shiki Futon Mattress Cover is designed with pockets on the top and bottom of the sheet allows the Shiki Futon to be slipped in and out easily without much hassle. Made in Japan, Futon, Cover, Removable, Washable.

Step 2

Slip the corners of futon into
the cover's pockets. Adjust futon
for the perfect fit through the holes on the side of the pocket. Elastic bands are added for the bigger-sized covers to provide support for the width.

Very happy!

We live in the USA and have been researching shikibutons for years. We knew we wanted quality, we knew we wanted natural materials and we knew we didnt want one that was "mass-produced". Im so glad we decided to order from Takaokaya. we bought 2 sets, one for me and one for my adult son. We couldnt be happier. They are beautifully made and very comfortable. My son and I are both side sleepers. There is a lot of information in the US regarding side sleepers and shikibutons that almost convinced us not to change over. We had a small adjustment period that lasted about 2 nights for him (he is younger) and 3 nights for me. No pain of course, but some soreness in my shoulders. Turns out it was our pillows. We ended up rolling a terry towel and sleeping on that. No more issues. We will now be looking for better pillows. I cant see myself ever going back to a western mattress. Takaokaya also included cards in our orders with "born" on dates and who did the cutting and sewing. That was a lovely personal touch. The futons were packed very well and arrived pretty quickly once they had been made. We are thinking about getting another for guests. Very happy with our new beds.

I really like both Shiki Futon Mattress and cover set. The mattress is a little bit too thin for me, but nothing really annoying and I love the texture and colors of the fabrics. Also, the customer service is very attentive and responsive.

Just a little tip, you can place a foam mattress under your Shiki Futon Mattress so that you can get more cushioning for a more comfortable sleep.

Great Futon but a little thin

Purchased two full size futons from Takaokaya and they are beautifully made. Maybe because I am used to sleeping on a mattress, the futon felt a little thin as I could still feel the tatami below. Would be great if there's an option for a double stuffing for thicker option futons.

Our handcrafting process is customizable and yes, we can add extra stuffing into the shiki futon. Thank you for the suggestion to put that option online. We will work on it! :)

Just a quick tip, do sun your futon regularly to maintain its fluffiness. If you would like to have a more 'cushioned' sleep, you can add on a topper, and also customized it with extra filling.
