About Hikizome Linen
Hikizome (literally pull dyeing, from pulling a brush) is a traditional Japanese dye technique in which a bolt of
fabric is stretched tautly, before water and dye are applied one after and another, by hand with a brush.
Our Hikizome linen collection comes in 2 colours – Kamagawa Blue and Arashiyama Bamboo Green, both of which are inspired by Kyoto’s famous sightseeing spots.
Why is goronenap futon so special?
Refined craftsmanship is deeply ingrained in both the DNA of Kyoto and Takaokaya.
-
All made by hand
Every product is lovingly handcrafted by experienced craftsmen using skills and techniques passed down for generations with pride for over 100 years. -
Cutting
Every piece is done by the steady hands of the craftsmen. Getting this process right is very important as it determines the outcome of the final product. -
sewing
Creating the outer shell of each product is no mean feat. Our craftsmen have to ensure that each piece is not only sewn at the right angles and made to the right proportions but also aesthetically pleasing to the eye. -
Stuffing
We place great emphasis on and take extreme care during the stuffing process because it determines the comfort level as well as the longevity of the finished products. -
Finishing
At the end of the production process, striking the cushion is essential. This step is done to make sure that the cotton filling spreads evenly. Middle stitches are applied to the center of the cushions to keep the cotton filling in place.
