What started as a simple goal—to create the ultimate relaxation cushion for adults—turned into something much more meaningful.

While we originally designed the 100cm Senbei Zabuton for Father's Day, our customers showed us its true potential. After a friend of our president used it as a dedicated nap space for their grandchild, we realized we had created the perfect haven for little ones.

Named after the well-loved Japanese rice cracker, the round "Senbei" cushion is as versatile as your imagination. Use it for lounging in front of the TV, as a cozy meditation corner companion, a safe floor playmat for your baby, or even a luxury bed for your furry friends.

There are no boundaries when it comes to Kutsurogi (true relaxation). Designed for babies, adults, and everyone in between—let’s relax more, together.

*The white fabric used for the cushion insert is known as kibata. Its unique color is achieved naturally during the hot water washing process, without the use of any dyes or bleach. You may notice small black dots on the surface; these are natural particles of the cotton flower. They are completely harmless and do not affect the quality or performance of the product.

Care

This set features a cotton-filled product (cushion / futon insert) with a removable cover made by cotton. To ensure its longevity, please follow these care instructions:

 

Washing

  • Do not wash at home. This item is not suitable for home laundering.
  • Spot Cleaning: For minor stains, gently dab the area with a damp cloth as soon as possible. Avoid rubbing harshly, as this may damage the fabric.
  • Professional Cleaning: If deep cleaning is necessary, please consult a professional cleaner specializing in futons or heavy bedding.

Drying

  • Sun drying is possible. However, please be aware that dark-colored items may fade if exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods.

Storage

  • Store in a well-ventilated area. Before long-term storage, we recommend drying the item in the sun to remove any lingering moisture.
  • Moisture Prevention: Cotton filling is sensitive to humidity. To prevent moisture buildup and mold, do not store in airtight plastic bags. Instead, use a breathable material such as a non-woven fabric bag.

Dry Cleaning: Professional dry cleaning is permitted using petroleum solvents.
Wet Cleaning
Wet Cleaning: Very gentle professional wet cleaning is permitted.
Important Note on Detergents
For natural (ecru) or light-colored fabrics, we recommend using non-fluorescent detergents. Detergents containing optical brighteners (fluorescent agents) may cause the color to change or look unnaturally pale/bluish.

Originally, this cushion was created as a gift for Father's Day. It was not created for babies and children from the beginning. We started to introduce it as a place mat for children's naps, triggered by the voices and photos from our customers who said it was very useful for their babies' napping. Then it became the most popular product at Takaokaya. When babies and adults lie down on the cushion, it feels so good and they naturally smile. We will bring a comfortable space through senbei zabuton.

What is the secret of the senbei zabuton ?

Secret 1

inner filling with pleasant firmness

The inner filling of the senbei cushion is mixed filling with "70% cotton, 30% polyester". This ratio was produced from the experience and knowledge of the craftsmen of Takaokaya, who have been making zabuton cushions for many years. By adding a large amount of cotton and a small amount of polyester, the one will not be too fluffy and will have a pleasant firmness, and people will be able to relax comfortably and safely.

SECRET 2

Stuffing by craftsmen

Stuffing is also unique to our craftsmen who make cushions. It has a large amount of filling in the center part where the weight is applied, and the filling is evenly layered on the whole to give it an appropriate thickness. The craftsman's experience and care of "thinking about the user and putting inner filling", which cannot be achieved by machine production, create "comfort" that makes everyone's smile.

SECRET 3

Babies to adults, Versatile size with variety of usage

The senbei cushion has a large diameter of 100cm and is attractive. Just lay it in the living room, then it will turn into a comfortable space. Also, due to its size, babies can take a nap with their brothers and sisters, sit down with their parents by reading a book, and so on. The cushion can be used as a rug for the interior of your room.

designs and variety of colors

All Takaokaya products are custom ordered due to handmade by craftsmen. We will make our products with your favorite colors, and designs.

Design

We have two designs for the senbei cushion. "Two-tone" with different colors and patterns on the left and right, "reversible" with different colors and patterns on the front and back. * Of course, you can choose the same color for the front and back.

Colors

Color for cover can be selected from Takaokaya's cotton collection. The collection is inluded 60 colors and pattern such as solid color, Japanese pattern, nordic pattern and so on. Please find the color you like.

water repellent finish and cover set

Not only normal type, we added the water-repellent finish type to the senbei cushion, so it is not easy that liquid goes into inside, and it is easier to clean daily by wiping it off quickly. Even if it gets dirty when we spit drink, the cover absorbs the liquid, so you can remove it immediately and wash it at home.
