Obon Summer Holiday Announcement - 2026

Obon Summer Holiday Announcement - 2026

Dear Valued Customers,

Celebrated annually in mid-August, the Obon Festival—steeped in rich Buddhist traditions—is one of Japan’s most cherished cultural events. It is a deeply meaningful time of family reunion and reconnection, as people across the country return to their ancestral homes to pay respects to loved ones and remember those who have passed.

Throughout the festival, communities celebrate with lively Bon Odori dances performed in vibrant summer yukata, colorful street processions, spectacular fireworks, hillside bonfires, bustling night markets, and the gentle floating of lanterns (toro nagashi) down rivers and seas.

Workshop & Office Closure

To allow our team members to return to their hometowns across Japan to spend quality time with their families, the Takaokaya workshop and office will be closed from August 9 through August 16.

Online Shop Operating Hours

While our physical workshop takes a brief pause, our online store remains open 24/7. You can continue to browse and shop for our artisanally handcrafted-in-Japan kangu (tools of relaxation) from anywhere in the world.

  • Note on Shipping: All orders placed during the holiday break will be processed sequentially when we reopen on August 17.

Visiting Us in Kyoto

For our overseas visitors planning a trip to Kyoto, we warmly invite you to experience our kutsurogi (relaxation) gallery. Try our authentic Japanese futons, zabutons, and handcrafted relaxation pieces in person!
